The first Test match between India and Bangladesh commenced at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday. Both teams had their moments of dominance, but it was the all-rounders Ravichandran Ashwin (102*) and Ravindra Jadeja (86*) who spearheaded the hosts' comeback.

At the end of Day 1, India had reached 339/6 after 80 overs. Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and decided to field first. However, the hosts endured a shaky start as they lost skipper Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0) and Virat Kohli (6) within the first 10 overs. They were reduced to 34/3 at one stage, with Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud making a strong impression as he claimed wickets at regular intervals.
