One of the Cincinnati Bengals 's top wide receivers is looking to make his season debut.
Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins said that he plans to play against the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football. Higgins, who has missed the first two games due to a hamstring injury, stated that he feels completely recovered and expects to be at full strength.
"I feel great," Higgins said following Friday's practice. "Obviously, it was unfortunate about the injury, and I had to sit out the first two weeks, but I'm finally ready to get back into the swing of things this season. I'm ready to go."
He felt good during warm-ups before last week's game against the Kansas City Chiefs . However, he wanted to err on the side of caution so he could be fully prepared when he took the field.
Higgins has been limited in practice throughout the week, including Friday's session. However, the fifth-year receiver noted that the preparations for Washington (1-1) have been good and he has gotten enough reps to feel confident and ready for the primetime matchup.
Higgins, who has accumulated over 1,000 receiving yards in three of his four NFL seasons, had a strong training camp before he suffered the hamstring injury on Sept. 5, just a few days before the season opener against the New England Patriots .
Last week, Higgins informed ESPN that the injury was more severe than initially anticipated following further evaluation. He reiterated this on Friday, adding that it was a disheartening setback because it was a key focus for him leading into the season.
"That's why I was so disappointed it happened because it was something I worked hard on this offseason to prevent, and it did, but I'm back now so it's good," Higgins said.
Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase is among those overjoyed at Higgins' potential return on Monday. Chase is eager to see less attention from opposing defenses. Chase is frequently double-teamed, as he was against Kansas City, where he had four catches on five targets for 35 yards in the loss.
Chase hopes Higgins brings a much-needed boost to a Bengals team seeking their first win of the season after their fifth 0-2 start in the last six seasons.
"I feel like we need a win, just to get one under our belt, to feel relaxed and secure a victory at home," Chase said. "I think that would be a good thing for us. And having a complete offense back as one united unit, finally, I think that would be great for us."
This situation is also beneficial for Higgins. He and the Bengals have been unable to reach a long-term contract agreement in the last two seasons. Cincinnati placed the one-year franchise tag on him for this year, making him a free agent at the end of the season.
He said he isn't focusing on having a standout season for potential financial gain.
"I don't really think about it that way," Higgins said when asked about the situation. "I just need to go out and be myself, play my game, and the rest will fall into place."
