NC gears up for J&K Assembly elections: Here's a look at what's in the manifesto

National Conference releases manifesto, J&K Assembly election, Article 370, Omar Abdullah, Omar Abdullah press conference

Following the Election Commission of India's announcement of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Election dates, the National Conference unveiled its campaign platform on Monday.

Unveiling the manifesto at the party headquarters in Srinagar, NC Vice President and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, stated that the party was “surprised by the outpouring of suggestions from individuals across Jammu and Kashmir, who reached out via emails and messages to contribute to the manifesto”.

“We have carefully considered these recommendations and strived to integrate them into the manifesto,” he added.

The NC ruled out any coalition with the BJP in the event of an inconclusive election result.

The party pledged to reinstate Article 370, revoked by the BJP government at the national level, and safeguard the land rights of local residents.

The party has presented extensive plans to address youth unemployment, promising to create 100,000 job opportunities.

The NC has pledged to address the issues of water and electricity, providing free electricity up to 200 units.

The party promised six free cylinders to EWS category

The manifesto includes benefits for women, such as free travel on public transportation.

The party promises to release political prisoners.

Abdullah emphasized that this document is not merely a manifesto but a comprehensive agenda for the party's governance.

“This manifesto will be unlike the manifesto of those parties which called for Badlaav and agenda. But a manifesto which will be worked upon after the NC forms the government,” Omar said in an apparent dig at the PDP over the latter’s alliance with the BJP in 2014 which culminated in the saffron party withdrawing from the coalition in 2018 and the subsequent abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019.

The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, spanning three phases, are scheduled for September 18, September 25, and October 1. The election results will be announced on October 4.
