PARIS -- Paris has closed out two and a half extraordinary weeks of Olympic sports and emotion with a star-studded show in France’s national stadium and from Long Beach in Southern California. The French capital has handed over hosting duties for the Summer Games to the next city in line: Los Angeles in 2028.
Snoop Dogg, who has been a prominent presence at the Paris Olympics, making multiple appearances on NBC, continued his involvement with a pre-recorded performance from his home state of California. Following his rendition of “Drop It Like Its Hot,” the rapper brought out Dr. Dre for a performance of their iconic hit “The Next Episode" in Long Beach, California.
Billie Eilish delivered a performance of “Birds of a Feather” from her third studio album “Hit Me Hard and Soft." The Red Hot Chili Peppers rocked the stage with their 2003 hit “Can't Stop.”
Just like his daring stunts in “Mission: Impossible”, Tom Cruise made a dramatic entrance by rappelling from the top of Stade de France while H.E.R. provided musical accompaniment on her guitar. He then revved up the crowd by riding a motorcycle through the audience, again with H.E.R.'s guitar playing. In a pre-recorded segment, he showcased a thrilling journey through Paris, culminating in a daring parachute descent from an airplane into a field.
H.E.R. delivered a captivating rendition of the U.S. national anthem, accompanied by her guitar, with Simone Biles and Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass in attendance. She continued her musical performance on a custom-built Stratocaster during the transition of the Olympic Games from Paris to Los Angeles.
1. For those wondering who performed during the closing ceremony, here's your answer. French singer-model Yseult brought the show to a close with a rendition of Frank Sinatra's iconic song, “My Way,” which is actually based on the French song “Comme d'habitude,” composed by Jacques Revaux and Claude François.
2. French band Phoenix's performance was so electrifying that even some athletes couldn't resist joining them on stage. Security had their hands full trying to keep the Olympians off the stage. The Grammy-winning band played “Lisztomania” and “If I Ever Feel Better.” Ezra Koenig also performed the song “Tonight.”
