Vidya Balan witnessed a surge in her popularity and fan following after the success of Paa in 2009, and her career skyrocketed. However, in an interview with Humans Of Bombay, she shared her experience of being body shamed by someone she was close to.
She said, “You know I think it’s always the closest people who hurt you the most and all I’ll say is that I’m not referring to family here. It’s irrelevant who the person is at this point, but suffice to say that when someone matters a lot to you and they are super-critical when they body shame you when they are just not supportive; it’s not nice. And the only thing for you to do at that point is to walk away.”
Advertisement One user suggested it was Shahid Kapoor because he supposedly controlled Kareena based on his comments. In fact, many people have been speculating it was the Kaminey star.
Additionally, in 2007, the focus shifted away from her film choices and became more about her fashion choices, both on and off screen. Back in 2008, Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan even presented her with a Naariyal award for the clothing she wore in Heyy Babyy (2007).
On the podcast Unfiltered with Samdish, the actress remarked, “When they informed me they’re going to give me the Na-Real award, I said, ‘Why me? My clothing choices are not solely my decision, right?’”
Vidya Balan discusses nepotism in the film industry.
“Nepotism or not, I am here. The film industry doesn’t belong to anyone’s father, otherwise every father’s son, every father’s daughter would be successful,” said Balan during an interview with Indian Express.
She went on to say, “I've been content doing things my own way. There were moments when I thought, ‘Perhaps if I had the support of certain individuals, people might have been more understanding during those times.’ However, in terms of opportunities, I don't believe anyone has been able to withhold my fair share.”
