Taylor Swift has had her fair share of surprises during her Eras Tour, and kept them rolling during her first show at London’s Wembley Stadium today with a surprise appearance from Ed Sheeran for a medley of their collaborations.

The two performed their duets “Everything Has Changed” and “End Game” during the surprise song section of the first of five London shows. About halfway through “Everything,” included on her 2012 album “Red,” Sheeran rose up from the back of the stage and joined Swift for the song before transitioning to “End Game,” the duet from 2017’s “Reputation.” The pair ended with a rendition of Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” before they hugged and Swift celebrated their friendship.

“This is one of my closest friends in the world, I feel like he's like a brother to me,” said Swift, standing beside Sheeran. “We toured together on the Red Tour. Every time I perform the 'Red' part of this show, I think about the memories we made. And now he's someone who plays Wembley almost every week. It's routine for him. He works so hard, and he's on tour right now, probably exhausted. But he wanted to come and play for you all, so let's give it up for Ed Sheeran.

Of course, Swift and Sheeran have been close friends and collaborators for a long time. In the past, Sheeran opened for Swift on her Red Tour, and they've publicly supported each other on social media and at award ceremonies. Their most recent collaboration, “The Joker and the Queen,” was released in 2021.

Swift is currently finishing the final European leg of her Eras Tour, with four additional dates scheduled through August 20th. During the shows, she's showcasing opening act Paramore alongside emerging female musicians like Sofia Isella, Holly Humberstone, Suki Waterhouse, Maisie Peters, and Raye.

The Eras Tour began in March 2023 at Glendale, Arizona's State Farm Stadium. Since then, she's essentially spent two years traveling the world to bring her show to audiences, performing in Japan, South America, Australia, and Europe. Besides Sheeran, Swift has welcomed several surprise guests to her shows, including Haim, Ice Spice, Aaron Dessner, and Gracie Abrams.

Her Wembley Stadium performance comes just a week after a security threat forced the cancellation of her three shows in Vienna. Local authorities apprehended three suspects linked to ISIS who were allegedly planning to attack concert attendees outside the venue. Following the arrests, concert organizer Barracuda Music announced the cancellation of the shows to prioritize the safety of potential concertgoers.
