Sudhir Mishra, Hema Committee row

Renowned director Sudhir Mishra, celebrated for his groundbreaking films like Yeh Woh Manzil To Nahin, Dharavi, Main Zinda Hoon, Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Khoya Khoya Chand, Yeh Saali Zindagi, Inkaar, Afwaah, and others, is currently preparing for the premiere of the second season of Tanaav.

The director shared his perspective on the Hema Committee report, which detailed the instances of sexual harassment faced by actresses and women working behind the scenes in the Malayalam film industry.

“So, whether it's the country's politics or false propaganda—a theme explored in Afwaah—if it's a topic I feel compelled to address, I make a film about it. Whenever I feel the need to express my thoughts on a subject, and whenever there's exploitation, I create a film to highlight the obvious. If you've seen Inkaar, you'll recognize the nuances within it,” he added.

The filmmaker disclosed that he is actively trying to understand the situation in the Malayalam film industry and has been engaging in conversations with women who are founding members of the Women In Cinema Collective.

There's a committee, and many responsible individuals are involved. I have spoken to some women I know from Kerala, who are now in leadership positions, and I trust them greatly. I'm not sure if I'm authorized to disclose their names,” Mishra stated.

The Chameli director expressed hope for a positive change in Mollywood, adding, “I believe they will handle it. I'm confident Kerala will manage effectively. Beyond that, I don't have specific information. It's unfair to comment on a situation you don't fully understand. However, in Bombay, a significant transformation has occurred. Better times are already upon us.”
