Shah Rukh Khan jokingly ribbes Karan Johar, his filmmaker friend, for focusing more on hosting chat shows than directing movies, while also congratulating 'Stree 2' actor Abhishek Banerjee for his horror-comedy film's box office success over 'Pathaan'.

On Tuesday, superstar Shah Rukh Khan playfully teased his friend and filmmaker Karan Johar, suggesting that Karan spends more time hosting talk shows than creating films.

Shah Rukh and Karan, who are set to host the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards 2024, have collaborated on several hit movies such as “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”, “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…”, “My Name is Khan”, and “Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna”.

At the press conference for the IIFA Awards, Shah Rukh teased Karan about his lack of activity as a director.

“He hosts talk shows, movie shows. When are you going to make films again, my brother?)” said the superstar, making the filmmaker laugh.

Karan, whose last directorial was 2023’s “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani”, acknowledged that Shah Rukh was right.

“From a filmmaker's perspective, this sounds all wrong. I should be making films. (But) That's exactly what I should be doing,” remarked the filmmaker, who also hosts the well-known celebrity chat show “Koffee With Karan”.

SRK also congratulated ‘Stree 2’ actor Abhishek Banerjee as the horror-comedy beats ‘Pathaan’ at the box-office and said, “I’ve been wanting to call you.”

The IIFA Awards, a three-day celebration of cinema, will be held for the third consecutive year at Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, from September 27 to 29.

Actor Vicky Kaushal will join Shah Rukh and Karan as a co-host for the event.

The event will feature performances by renowned actress Rekha, alongside popular actors like Shahid Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, and Kriti Sanon.

“I am honored to co-host this event with Vicky and Karan, and to share the stage with such incredible talent. Some of us are present here tonight. And of course, there will be fantastic performances ahead. We'll see Shahid, Vicky, Jahnvi, Kriti, and, most importantly, the exceptional star Rekha ji,” shared Shah Rukh.
