Richard Simmons Cause of Death: 'Accidental' From Falls, Heart Disease

The reason for the death of fitness guru Richard Simmons has been revealed.
His brother Lenny Simmons told People Magazine in a statement on Wednesday that his passing was “accidental” and caused by “complications from recent falls and heart disease.”
“This morning, Richard Simmons ‘ brother Lenny, received a call from the L.A. Coroner’s office. The coroner informed Lenny that Richard’s death was accidental due to complications from recent falls and heart disease as a contributing factor. The toxicology report was negative other than medication Richard had been prescribed. The family wishes to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support during this time of great loss,” Simmons’ publicist Tom Estey shared in a statement to People.

Simmons passed away at his home in Los Angeles on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the age of 76. It was the day after his birthday.
According to TMZ, Simmons suffered a fall at his home on Friday, July 12, but decided against seeking medical attention. The outlet stated that his housekeeper tried to persuade him to go to the hospital, but he wished to stay home on his birthday. On Saturday morning, his housekeeper found Simmons unresponsive on the floor next to his bed. He was declared dead at the scene; law enforcement officials said there were no signs of anything suspicious.
“I don’t want people to be sad about my brother,” Lenny told People after his brother’s death. “I want them to remember him for the genuine joy and love he brought to people’s lives. He truly cared about people. He called, wrote, and emailed thousands of people throughout his career to offer help. So don’t be sad. Celebrate his life.”
