Adipurush, starring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon and directed by Om Raut, received significant criticism for its handling, dialogue, visual effects, and performances. Despite the film's box office failure, the director defended it, claiming that Prabhas, along with Salman Khan, are immune to box office failures due to their massive fan bases.
"Their popularity is so immense that it remains unaffected by any ups and downs," he said in an interview with Amol Parchure’s YouTube channel.
Advertisement Discussing the box office performance, he further stated, "Our opening day saw ₹70 crore in India alone. The overall box office collection exceeded ₹400 crore. So, the numbers were substantial… With Adipurush, there was a perceived loss, not a revenue loss. If the public perception had been positive and under control, we would have witnessed an enormous number, which we didn't. This was a disappointment.”
Deeply humbled by the love and enthusiasm surrounding the #AdipurushTrailer! Prepare to witness the epic battle of good versus evil in CINEMAS ON JUNE 16! Jai Shri Ram 🙏

— Om Raut (@omraut) May 9, 2023 Talking about the review, Firstpost gave Adipurush 2 stars and wrote, “While the filmmaker used heavy VFX to make it visually appealing to youth, this decision has unfortunately overpowered the storytelling. The screenplay played a big loophole as it fails to grab our attention and keep us glued to our seats. With the runtime of 3 hours, one would expect a water-tight screenplay and razor-sharp editing but sadly, it makes the cine goer lose his interest due to many unnecessary songs and sequences, which does nothing but hamper the experience.

The addition of animated characters and their superpowers reminds you of MCU and DC characters like The Flash, Rocket from The Guardians of the Galaxy and others. In fact, it also takes you to parts of The Hobbit and Gotham City from The Batman.”
