ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Patti Scialfa , Bruce Springsteen's wife and E Street bandmate, says she has been dealing with multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer.

In a documentary about the band that premiered on Sunday, the 71-year-old Scialfa revealed that she was diagnosed with the disease in 2018.

The guitarist shared that the condition has caused her to reduce her touring commitments with the band.

“This condition impacts my immune system, so I have to be cautious about my activities and where I go,” she explained in the film, titled “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.”

“Occasionally, I make an appearance at a show or two, and I'm able to perform a few songs on stage, which is always a joy,” she said. "That's the new normal for me at this point, and I'm content with that.”

A representative for Scialfa said Monday no further details about her condition would be shared, including whether she is currently receiving treatment for the illness.

She did not attend the film's premiere in Toronto.

Scialfa has been a member of the E Street Band since 1984, and married Springsteen in 1991. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. She has also released music as a solo artist.

Springsteen had to reschedule some tour dates in the past two years due to a stomach ulcer condition and vocal issues. He is scheduled to perform at a music festival in Asbury Park, the Jersey Shore city closely tied to his music, on Sept. 15.
