Chris Pine has joined the cast of feature film “The Kidnapping of Arabella” (“Il rapimento di Arabella”) in an Italian-speaking role.

Penned and directed by rising Italian filmmaker Carolina Cavalli, the film, following her debut feature “Amanda,” is described as a “dramedy” and narrates the tale of a young woman convinced she is not the true version of herself.

Bendetta Porcaroli, who appeared in “Amanda,” is again teaming up with Cavalli, this time to play Holly, a young misfit uncomfortable in her body. Convinced she is “the wrong version of herself,” a chance encounter with a 7-year-old gets Holly to change her mind.

Production is set to start this week in Northern Italy.

Pine, who is also fluent in Spanish, revealed to Spanish magazine Vanidades earlier this year that he is learning Italian and occasionally mixes up words between the two languages.

Earlier this month Variety exclusively reported that “The Kidnapping of Arabella” was in development after the success of “Amanda,” a comedic film with an absurd tone and themes of arrested development, which was showcased at the Venice and Toronto film festivals two years ago.

“I believe that solitary individuals who come together to address a problem have already tackled the biggest obstacle, and this is what brings me joy about this narrative,” Cavalli shared with Variety three weeks ago. “I eagerly anticipate the commencement of production and am deeply thankful for this opportunity.”

The Apartment CEO Annamaria Morelli said: “Carolina’s second film perfectly matches my vision for The Apartment’s future. On one hand, I will continue along the same path the company is known for, featuring high-end productions with top Italian talents like Paolo Sorrentino, Luca Guadagnino, etc., and also big international co-productions and top international IP.”

“The Kidnapping of Arabella” is a production by Elsinore Film in collaboration with The Apartment, a Fremantle company. Antonio Celsi represents Elsinore as a producer, while Annamaria Morelli serves the same role for The Apartment.

Chris Pine is represented by CAA, John Carrabino Management and Gendler, Kelly & Cunningham.
