'Alien: Romulus' Director Fede Alvarez To Keynote View Conference

“Alien: Romulus” screenwriter and director Fede Alvarez is set to deliver a keynote address at View Conference . The 25th annual VFX and animation event will take place from Oct. 14-19 in Turin, Italy.
Alec Gillis, creature FX designer on “Alien: Romulus,” is also scheduled to attend View, where he will present a talk titled “Practical Character Effects and Why They Still Matter.” Gillis will discuss “Alien: Romulus,” as well as his work on films including “Aliens,” “Predator,” “Starship Troopers” and “Death Becomes Her.”
Multi-hyphenate Alvarez is an Uruguayan filmmaker who made his directorial debut with the 2013 “Evil Dead” remake, which he also wrote. He wrote, directed and produced “Don’t Breathe” and “Don’t Breathe 2” and produced and wrote 2022’s “Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” On the TV side, Alvarez created, directed, and wrote the Apple TV+ series “Calls,” an English adaptation of the French series of the same name. It won an Emmy for outstanding motion design and earned Alvarez a WGA nomination for adapted short-form new media.

“For years, the ‘Alien’ series has captivated audiences with some of cinema’s most memorable horror visuals,” said View Conference director Maria Elena Gutierrez. “Fede Alvarez has taken the franchise to new heights, and I am eager to hear his keynote address at View Conference 2024, where he will discuss his creative journey as director and co-writer of ‘Alien: Romulus’.”
Other scheduled View Conference speakers include Jonathan Nolan, who will discuss “Fallout” with VFX supervisor Jay Worth; “Inside Out 2” director Kelsey Mann; “The Wild Robot” director Chris Sanders; “Ultraman Rising” director Shannon Tingle; “That Christmas” director Simon Otto; and “Transformers One” director Josh Cooley.
