Chilean filmmaker Sebastián Freund of Rizoma Films and Argentine actors Ernesto Alterio (“The Passenger”) and Soledad Villamil (“The Secret in Their Eyes”) are set to star in the upcoming feature by Argentine director Alberto Lecchi , titled “A Distant Place” (“Un lugar lejano”).
Rizoma Films (“Papa al rescate,” “The Same Blood”) joins the lead producer Twins Latin Films of Argentina and co-producers Filmakers Monkeys (Spain) in the drama that is featured at the Iberseries & Platino Industria Co-Production Forum in Madrid.
Penned by Gerardo Pranteda, the story revolves around a pianist and a history teacher as they struggle for a second chance at love before a shattering illness impacts the musician’s grip on reality.

“We are thrilled to create a film that explores how love, memories, and close relationships can provide solace and hope even in the most challenging times. It also addresses frontotemporal dementia, a condition rarely portrayed in cinema, offering an empathetic and compassionate perspective,” said Lorena Quevedo, CEO & producer at Twins Latin Films.
Based in Córdoba, Argentina, Twins Latin Films’ most recent productions are “Almamula,” which debuted at the Berlinale last year, and Rodrigo Guerrero’s “Salvajes,” both of which are available for streaming on Prime Video.
Rizoma was a co-producer on “Salvajes,” which will premiere on Prime Video on September 24. “It was a highly rewarding experience,” said Freund. “When Lorena invited me to be part of ‘A Distant Place,’ I felt that it was not only the theme of the film— a love story, the complexities of human relationships, a rare mental illness, the importance of second chances—that was compelling, but also the dedicated talent involved – including the young Chilean actor, Clemente Rodríguez, [“El Conde”], Chile’s Sergio Armstrong [“Neruda”] as the director of photography and editor Andrea Chignoli [“No”], alongside Spanish co-producer Néstor López of Filmakers Monkeys – that allow us to imagine a significant international project with the potential to reach audiences worldwide and premiere at a prestigious festival,” said Freund.
Established in 2009 by Quevedo and Pablo Di Patrizio, Twins Latin Films’ collaborative co-production approach has fostered partnerships with France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, and Chile.
The Iberseries Co-Production Forum is the next step in the project’s development, following its recent award at the Guadalajara Film Festival’s Co-Production Meeting. “We are currently exploring the possibility of adding a Mexican producer to the project, and we remain open to partnerships with other territories,” said Quevedo.
“From a production standpoint, this project presents a unique opportunity to create a work of exceptional artistic quality that explores universal emotions. This project facilitates the creation of an organic co-production among Ibero-American countries, tailored specifically for their respective markets and audiences,” she added.
Filming for “A Distant Place” is scheduled to begin in June 2025 in Madrid, Córdoba, and Mendoza in Argentina, as well as Santiago, Chile.
Iberseries & Platino Industria will take place from October 1st to 4th in Madrid.
