SEATTLE -- Alaska Airlines said it grounded its flights in Seattle briefly on Sunday night due to “significant disruptions” from an unspecified technology problem that was resolved by about 10 p.m. local time.

Alaska Airlines acknowledged delays and issues with its app and website, attributing them to a technical problem. While the carrier apologized for the inconvenience and announced the resolution of the problem, the specific cause of the disruption remains unclear.

“If you are traveling today, please check your flight status before heading to the airport. If your schedule allows, please consider changing or canceling your flight,” the airline stated on its website. “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and are working diligently to resolve the issue.”

It has been a difficult period for travelers passing through Seattle, a major hub for Alaska Airlines and other significant airlines.

Last week, the operator of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, the primary hub for Alaska Airlines, disclosed that hackers were demanding a ransom of $6 million in bitcoin for documents they had stolen during a cyberattack in August and subsequently published on the dark web. The Port of Seattle, which owns and manages the airport, declared that it had decided not to pay the ransom.

The airport has been recovering from the attack , which commenced on August 24, a peak travel period just days before the Labor Day holiday weekend.
